Great gourds!

It’s hard to miss the sea of orange surrounding the Sewickley United Methodist Church in Sewickley.

The annual Pumpkin Patch fundraiser kicked off on Sept. 30 and features more than 2,000 pumpkins at the corner of Broad and Thorn Streets.

It’s the 23rd year for the sale and the sheer number of pumpkins attracts lots of shoppers and folks seeking photo opportunities.

Rylee Melodini, 3, of Leet, explores the pumpkin patch after preschool at the Sewickley United Methodist Church.

The patch once welcomed a wedding party for celebratory nuptial pics among the blaze of color.

Proceeds benefit two organizations, the church and the Navajo Indian Reservation in Farmington, New Mexico.

The pumpkins are sold the entire month of October and the sale generates about $5,000 in profit from $15,000 in sales for SUMC.

The pumpkins are grown in New Mexico on Navajo lands and shipped to more than 890 churches and civic organizations with the help of Pumpkin USA.

Volunteers are always needed and can sign up online here.

The patch is located at 337 Broad St.

The hours of operation are 11 a.m. to dusk Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to dusk on Saturdays and noon to dusk on Sundays.
