Contact info update requested
Edgeworth Water Authority officials implore residents and business owners of Edgeworth, Leetsdale, Leet and Bell Acres to update their contact information to help ensure emergency notifications are properly sent to customers. Officials said information forms will be mailed out in the next billing insert. EWA issues notifications from the phone number 412-259-9977.
Flushing notice
EWA announced its fall system flushing will take place Oct. 2-6. Notices are expected to be sent out the last week of September.
Tax service available
Jordan Tax Service officials will be at the Sewickley borough building from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 29 for collection of this year’s school taxes.
Cooking class planned
Sewickley Public Library will host The Global Kitchen, a cooking program designed to introduce people to foods from around the world, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 31 in the community room, 500 Thorn St. Each session features a new set of recipes. Crescent Avenue update
Phase one of the Crescent Avenue reconstruction project in Sewickley is expected to be done by the end of August, borough engineer Mike Galet announced. There are a few punch-list items left to be done before crews can move on to phase two. The first part of the project included slide repairs, retaining wall replacement and slope stabilization on the upper section of the roadway.
Phase two is still in the design phase. Work is expected to include slope stabilization on the lower end of the street, and repaving of the entire avenue.
Paving to begin
This year’s Sewickley paving project is expected to begin at the end of this month. Council approved a nearly $462,000 contract with Wampum-based Youngblood Paving on May 9. Roads to be repaired include Grant Street from Bank to Linden streets, Linden Place from Academy Avenue to Grant Street, Centennial Avenue from Grove Street to Blackburn Road and Thorn Street from Logan to Peebles streets. The project is expected to take four to six weeks depending on scheduling.
Girl Scouts recruitment night
Sewickley-area Girl Scout volunteers will present information about Glen Oaks Service Unit and answer questions about how to register your K-12 daughter, become a volunteer, or both. The event will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Club Thaw outdoor pavilion, 174 Campmeeting Road Ext. in Leet. Girls are welcome but not required to attend this free event. Night mart set
Sewickley Chamber of Commerce’s final Night Mart of the summer is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Aug. 25. Festivities are between Broad and Walnut streets. More than 25 artisans and a baker’s dozen of food trucks are scheduled to participate. More information about Night Mart and other chamber events is available at sewickleychamberofcommerce.org.
Leetsdale luau
Leetsdale Parks and Recreation has planned a Hawaiian luau as an end-of-summer celebration 4 p.m. Aug. 26 at Henle Park. There will be games, prizes, and concessions and the splash pad will be open. More information is available at leetsdaleboro.net.
Knitting Guild
Three Rivers Knitting Guild meets on the second Monday of every month at the Leetsdale Community Room in the Borough Building, 139 Broad Street. The meeting starts at 6:15 p.m. Attendees enjoy workshops, classes, show and tell, and just getting together with other knitters. An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club will host Donna Greenblatt of the Sewickley Heights History Center on Aug. 25, who will discuss the history of Sewickley Heights. Allegheny County Sheriff’s Deputy Jamie Tarar will talk about crime prevention, the fentanyl crisis and human trafficking Sept. 8. A representative from Duquesne Light will discuss the power grid Sept. 15, and Jonathan Kersting of the Pittsburgh Technology Council will talk about technology in the region on Sept. 22.
