Laughlin Children’s Center CARE Workshops

Register for one of the Laughlin Children’s Center’s popular and informative Care Workshops presented by Dr. Gail Mangan, a highly acclaimed adolescent psychologist.

CARE training includes an educational component and active practice for general use by adults who interact with children of all ages in various settings. Adults who are clinicians will benefit from the training, as will those in roles such as receptionist, preschool teacher, daycare provider, medical provider, parent, or foster parent.

Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement is a trauma-informed, field-initiated training for nonclinical adults. Care training emphasizes principles taught in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.

CARE utilizes the 3 Ps – Praise, Paraphrase, and Point out to connect with children and promote positive child-adult relationships. CARE training also contains techniques for giving children effective commands and a set of selective ignoring techniques to redirect problematic behaviors.

Two sessions are available on Dec. 8, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

To register, visit laughlincenter.org or call 412-741-4087.

Holiday Greens & Gift Shoppe

For the best selection at the Moon Township Garden’s Club’s annual Holiday Greens & Gift Shoppe Dec. 3, it’s best to be early at Robin Hill Center in Moon, its members say.

Grace Aldridge, event chairwoman, said that people began lining up at 8:15 a.m. in past years to have the best selection of various handcrafted holiday wreaths, swags, garlands and centerpieces using both fresh and artificial greens.

But this year, “We’ve evolved beyond just the greens,” said Aldridge of the event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at Robin Hill Park, 949 Thorn Run Road in Moon. “We’ve expanded to other items like cards, crocheted toys” and new fairy garden wands.

To reflect these new offerings, the event has a new name this year. The gift shop aspect means attendees can purchase garden gifts like steppingstones and bird baths, as well as homemade baked goods.

The club will sell its handcrafted items in six rooms of Robin Hill’s 1920s Georgian-style home. Gifts for the birds and family pets, fire starters, homemade stationery, soy candles and glass flowers and fresh greens will be available to purchase. The club charges nothing to enter and browse and will give away a door prize.

All proceeds support the club’s annual scholarship, the Fleur de Lune Garden at Robin Hill and the club’s other philanthropic endeavors.
