Obee appointed trustee

Members of the Chautauqua Corporation elected Sewickley’s Bob W. Obee as the newest of four trustees of the Chautauqua Institution at the corporation’s annual meeting Aug. 12. The new trustee class officially began its term Oct. 1. Obee is a founding principal of Businessolutions LLC, a boutique consulting firm focused on profit improvement through effective application of business analytics, primarily in the transportation industry. Previously he was an executive officer with Roadway Corporation in Akron, Ohio, leading mergers and acquisitions, information technology, and operations planning and engineering. For more than 45 years, four generations of his family have assembled each summer at Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York.

Sewickley Music Club

On Dec.13 at 1:30 p.m., Sewickley Music club members will gather for a winter-themed holiday tea and concert at the Edgeworth Club. Alyssa Hensley (harp) and Isabella Millman (clarinet) will perform “Wires & Reeds Duo Winter Concert.”

Hensley is the manager of youth chamber connection and special projects at Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras. She holds a masters degree and advanced certificate in parp performance from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in harp performance from Northwestern University.

Millman is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a masters of fine arts in music performance, and also holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science, music performance from the University of Houston.

Free Toy Store

The Christmas Toy Store offered by Walking the Talk is being held at the Sewickley United Methodist church this year, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 9. Walking the Talk is a local grassroots organization that strives to put those in need together with the resources capable of filling those needs. The Toy Store continues to be supported by the hard work of the members of St. Matthews AME Zion Church of Sewickley. If you would like to help by donating toys, household items or new clothing, contact judyhaluka@walkingthetalk.net. There are also opportunities to help by volunteering your time for all or part of the event. This is an event that provides local toys to local kids in need.

Green Elephant Market

On Dec. 9 and 10, Fern Hollow Nature Center will bring together nature and artists of all kinds by hosting a Green Elephant Market. Local vendors specializing in natural and nature-themed products will be on hand to sell their artisanal goods. The market will be free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days. Vendors include Paisley’s Petals, Two Little Blooms Garden, Clavicle Havoc, The Novelty Collective, Obelos Design, Celestial Greetings, Rose Fer Alley, Fig Tree Pursuits and more. Senior Men’s Club

An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club will host Wally Merriman will discuss Christmas music Dec. 15. There will be no meetings Dec. 8 (because of the Christmas party), 22 or 29. For more information, visit smensclub.org or Facebook.com/smensclub.

Business Connection

Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet at the Eat N’ Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. Dec. 13. Speakers will be Suzette McCarrell of McCarrell Landscape Construction and Stephanie Milazzo of Mary Kay. Rotary scholarship

The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program announces the availability of scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. In recent years, at least eight scholarships of $5,000 each have been awarded. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Vocational students, GED students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools are also eligible.

Students must have a 2.5 or higher grade point average and also must complete an essay that highlights their community/school service as part of the application submission.

Millet joins Pressley Ridge

Sewickley resident Matt Millet joined Pressley Ridge asvice president of development & donor engagement in August. He is responsible for overseeing all fundraising and development activities while working closely with the president and CEO, board of directors and other key stakeholders.

Previously, Millet served as vice president for institutional advancement at Robert Morris University where he oversaw all fundraising and external operations. Before his time at RMU, he also spent time at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Delaware State University. Prior to higher education, Millet also served as director of corporate partnerships for Floyd Hall Enterprises, owner of the Can-Am League Sussex Skyhawks and New Jersey Jackals minor league baseball clubs, and director of corporate sales and ticket operations with the New Jersey Cardinals, Single A affiliate of Major League Baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals.
