Open house

St. James School will host an Open House from 12:30-2 p.m. Jan. 29 for all prospective students and families (3 year-old preschool through eighth grade). Take a personal tour of the school, meet the teachers and principal, and see what makes St. James School such a special place. To register for the open house, email admissions@stjamesschool.us Walk-ins are welcome.

Speaker series

After a successful turnout last April on the topic of “Internal and External National Security Challenges,” Sewickley Academy has once again invited speakers from the U.S. Army War College’s Eisenhower Series College Program to campus (the Gregg Theater) from 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 17. The group of speakers includes, from the U.S. Army, Lieutenant Colonels Marion Thomas (Artillery) and Tamisha Norris (Information Operations), Lieutenant Colonel Chris Power of the U.S. Army National Guard (Military Police), and Colonel Steinar Dahl of the Norwegian Army (Infantry). Their discussion will feature a variety of topics such as climate change, Russia/Ukraine, military strategy in the information environment, and the role of the National Guard in civil unrest. The event is free and open to the public. Seating will be first-come, first-serve and reservations are recommended at www.sewickley.org/about-us/speaker-series.

Business Connection

The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet Jan. 18 at Eat’n Park on Route 60 in Robinson for breakfast from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will be Dave Dauer with Dauer Power and Jim Kernick with Kernick Tire and Auto Service. Senior Men’s Club

An affiliate of the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club will host George Pry, who will talk about Honor Flights, on Jan. 13. On Jan. 20, Cal Augustin will discuss flying at the edge of space. For more information, visit smensclub.org or Facebook.com/smensclub.
