Sept. 11 Honor Parade

In recognition to those who served or are serving in the military during the Afghanistan conflict, VFW Keith-Holmes Post 402 will be hosting an honor parade at 11 a.m. Sept. 11. It runs from Thorn Run to Broadway in Coraopolis. Immediately afterward, a celebration slated to include live music and food trucks will take place near the post home on Mill Street.

Senate-hopeful Sean Parnell will be the grand marshall of the parade. Parnell had served as an Army Ranger with the 10th Mountain Division and fought in Afghanistan.

All local veterans who have been awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal or the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal are encouraged to attend with family members to be recognized by the post. Those who bring a copy of their DD Form 214 that verifies qualifying military service will be sponsored for membership into the VFW.

Book sale

Sewickley Public Library will host a book sale from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11 and 1-3:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at 500 Thorn St. More information is available by calling 412-741-6920 or go to sewickleylibrary.org.

Harvest Dinner

Little Hill U.M. Church, 2350 Magee Road Ext., Franklin Park, will host a Harvest Dinner from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 18. Dinner includes breaded chicken, corn casserole, green beans, oven-roasted potatoes, cabbage and noodles, and pumpkin bars. Take-outs are welcome, and masks are required. Cost for adults is $12, ages 6-12 $6, and 5 and under are free.

Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection

The Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection, a referral group of business professionals, will meet Sept. 8 at the Eat N’ Park on Route 60 in Robinson Township for breakfast from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Speakers will be Susan Ansell, CPA, and Eddie Grimes of Good Advertising. Glass recycling

Pennsylvania Resources Council’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program, which provides a free recycling service that rotates through a variety of locations in the region, will be at Sewickley Riverfront Park from Sept. 25-30. Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required). Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site. For more information, visit prc.org/glassrecycling.

Rummage sale

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sewickley will host a Fall Rummage Sale on Sept. 10-11. Gently used items can be dropped off through Sept. 5 at the courtyard entrance to the church. For more information, contact the church office at 412-741-8484 or stpaulssew@verizon.net.

Girl Scouts Recruitment Night

Glen Oaks Girl Scouts is hosting an information event for parents of K-12th grade girls. Recruitment Night will include a presentation and Q&A with Sewickley area volunteers from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Club Thaw outdoor pavilion, 174 Campmeeting Road Ext. Learn about local opportunities to make friends, try new things and practice leadership skills. Girls are welcome to attend activities with older scouts. For a limited time, new girls get 30% off the $25 annual membership fee, payable by credit or check. Financial aid is available. Divine Redeemer 55 Plus Club

The 55 Plus Club is for those interested in meeting new people over the age of 55 while eating lunch and being entertained once a month from September 2021 through May 2022.

The membership fee is $14 per year. Luncheons are held on the third Thursday of every month and begin with the rosary in the church at 11:30 a.m., lunch and entertainment at noon in the gathering space. Lunches are $15 for members and $16 for guests. The December Christmas party price will be determined at a later date.
