Anyone with a taste for cookies may want to walk over to St. St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church in Franklin Park.
The church at 2365 McAleer Road is sponsoring a cookie walk on Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will feature more than 600 dozen cookies, a well as homemade soups and quality crafts. All of the cookies are made by members of the church, including popular favorites, and lots of specialty and ethic varieties, said Donna Aiello, an organizer for the church cookie walk.
“The room is just full of cookies,” said Aiello of Ohio Township. “It’s just a fun event. It attracts a lot of people.”
Cookie walkers can purchase a small or large box and fill it to the brim. Prices are to be determined.
The soups also are made in-house at the church, usually featuring wedding soup, broccoli cheese, carrot ginger and several other varieties, she said.
A raffle is being conducted for a first-prize basket of gift cards worth $500; a second-prize a basket of gift cards worth $200; and a third-prize gift card basket worth $100.
The $2 admission provides a chance for door prizes from donating vendors.
The cookie walk has been happening for 17 years and is the church’s largest fundraiser. This is the first year that the Avonworth High School Chamber choir will sing as will Keely Singer’s vocal students.
Some crafts include holiday items, home décor, jewelry, wooden items, stained glass, pottery, homemade salsa, gourmet popcorn and more. About 30 quality vendors are expected, Aiello said.
Marilyn Mulvihill also helps organize the event. The Ohio Township resident looks forward to all the different types of cookies.
“I like the ethnic cookies, the ones you can’t buy in the store,” said Mulvihill.
It also gets everyone ready for the pending seasonal excitement.
“It’s a kickoff to the holiday season. People are in a good mood, and it’s festive,” said Aiello.
