Letter to the editor: Forget the new Quaker Valley High School

My two cents on the QV high school:
After reading the recent Sewickley Herald article dated Sept. 29, 2022, detailing the latest school board expenditure in the now interminable saga of the new Quaker Valley High School, I was struck by two things:
No. 1. The firm contracted to design this edifice isn’t already looking for “strategies to reduce building energy use.” I had incorrectly assumed that a new high school would incorporate the latest sustainable building technologies and perhaps even be a LEED certified green building given the cost to erect this long-awaited monstrosity is estimated at $100 million.
No. 2. I no longer care whether the place gets built. The nearly 100 year old structure was good enough to educate our daughter; it will be good enough, with a few upgrades, to teach a few thousand more Fighting Quakers. The old place made her tougher after sweating in the warmer months and shivering in the colder ones. Specifically, she was steeled for the hard times ahead by the cauldron otherwise known as the QV gymnasium in August and September during four volleyball seasons!
This wave of apathy has so taken hold that I’m prompted to find a different path forward. Forgot building a new school on the hill or on the current Beaver Street location.
Let’s just…Keep Our Moldy Excellent School, K.O.M.E.S.
