Leetsdale’s summer paving program is expected to begin this month.

Projected paving includes Davis Avenue, parking lots of the borough building and Henle Park along with milling/repaving the trenches for the Edgeworth Water Authority and Leetsdale Sewage Authority projects.

Borough Engineer Dan Slagle said crews from Oakmont-based A. Folino Construction are to start by June 30 and finish by the end of August. An actual start date will depend on other projects.

Impacted Leetsdale residents will be notified ahead of time, said Sean Gulbin, A. Folino estimator.

A. Folino was the lowest of four bidders for the contract, which was approved earlier this year at a cost of nearly $66,200.

Bids were received in February.

Slagle said the company has done work for Leetsdale in previous years.

“They’re a good contractor,” he said.

Grant projects planned

Leetsdale was recently awarded a few Community Development Block Grants through the Allegheny County Department of Development, Slagle announced at a June 8 council meeting.

They include $43,500 for two new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking spaces at Henle Park, $29,422 to upgrade existing ADA parking at the borough building and $36,000 for the demolition of houses at 189 and 300 Beaver St.

Slagle said the grants fully fund each respective project, and no matching borough money is required for any of them.

The two homes were declared dilapidated and condemned earlier this year.

Grants will be administered through the Quaker Valley Council of Governments.

Slagle said the next step in the process is to execute grant agreements between the COG and the borough.

Projects would go out for bid after that.

Pre-applications for the next rounds of CDBG funds are due Sept. 9.

The borough is accepting recommendations for possible projects.

Ones already being discussed include Washington Street playground equipment, Henle Park playground equipment, Henle Park walking trail and rubber floors for the swing sets, boat dock restroom, more housing demolitions, and upgrades to Kohlmeyer Park parking.

Residents who want to make a suggestion can contact the borough office at 724-266-4820 or send a message through the recently redesigned borough website, leetsdaleboro.net.
