Leetsdale officials want to hear from residents about what can be done to improve Kohlmeyer Park.

The recreation site is located at 1301 Brickworks Drive.

It has a small pavilion, a basketball court, a playground and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking.

“It’s a small park tucked into a highly developed area,” council president Maria Napolitano said. “It’s actually being very well used by the community. There are various things that can be done with it.”

A community meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on April 28 at the borough building, 373 Beaver St.

Light refreshments will be provided.

“I want to get (residents) more involved with borough activities,” said councilman Scott Zahner, parks and recreation chairman.

Napolitano plans to work with borough engineer Daniel Slagle to have a site plan or map of the park so residents can pinpoint where they would like to see improvements.

“It’s very important to sit together and talk to everybody in the community and put everything down in writing,” she said. “We’re going to apply for a number of grants to fund the needed improvements. Playground updates and park updates are expensive. For these applications, it is very important to show the results public participation.

“The feedback from the community will serve as a basis for the applications. We will apply for funds to get what people want. That’s what the grant agencies want to see. They want to see the public actually wants what you’re trying to do.”

More information about the meeting is available by calling the borough office at 724-266-4820.
