Quaker Valley School Board race mainly retains incumbents

The Quaker Valley School Board race saw a community divided on the issues of a new high school, curriculum and masks.
There were six candidates on the ballot for the race, and one, Stratton Nash, who was cross-filed, ran unopposed in the district’s Region 2.
According to the Allegheny County Office of Elections unofficial results, two incumbents were the top vote-getters for the pair of seats in Region 1: Democrat Daniela Sauro Helkowski with 790 and Jonathan Kuzma, who was cross-filed, with 695.
Newcomer Brett Williams received 691 votes – but he’s not counting himself out just yet.
“We have many proud veterans in here in Region 1, and my own father, mother and wife having served their country in uniform, we must wait until all military men and women have their ballots received and counted by the county over the next five days,” he said on Nov. 3. “It would be unfair and premature not to wait until all voices have been heard and counted.”
One seat was open in Region 3, where incumbent and Democrat Kathryn Doebler captured 1,113 votes. Newcomer and Republican Heather Saftner received 1,022 votes. Saftner did not run in the primary – she was placed on the ballot after David Poluszejko, who won the Republican ticket in the primaries, withdrew from the race.
