Registration is open for a youth and family winter bowling league in Sewickley.

The youth and family bowling leagues are eight weeks starting Jan. 11 at Fair Oaks Lanes.

Both league games are Sundays starting at 2 p.m. at 660 Ambridge Ave.

This is the second year for the program founded by Chris Moyer, chief operating officer of Premier Youth & Community Center.

Moyer said the inaugural youth winter league had about 28 bowlers and the family league had 22 bowlers. There was more participation in the fall.

“We had 35 kids and adults participate in our fall short league (four weeks),” Moyer said.

“Twenty-four of them were first-time participants with our league. We received very positive feedback from both kids and parents, and they’ll be coming back in January. I’m predicting that our winter program will have the most participants we’ve had yet.”

Most weeks there was a theme, such as sports jersey day, crazy hat day and a Halloween one the Sunday after the holiday.

“There’s competitions every week that allow kids to win prizes,” Moyer said. “With the eight-week league, we have an awards ceremony on the final day and give out trophies and medals and other goodies.

“Kids and parents of all skill levels are invited to join us. In the league that just closed, skill levels ranged from kids who had never picked up a ball to kids that bowl very frequently and have their own equipment.”

The youth league is open to kids in grades 2 and above. Cost is $175 per bowler.

The family league is open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade and their parents/guardians.

Cost is $350 per adult/child pair, which equates to $700 for a family of four.

Costs for each league include the whole eight-week season.

A five-week family duckpin league starts Jan. 18 at the Edgeworth Club.

Games are Saturdays starting at 11 a.m. at 511 East Drive.

Cost is $160 for an adult/child pair, which equates to $320 for a family of four for the entire season.

Deadline to register is the day before each league starts.

Bowlers for any of the leagues do not need to be Quaker Valley-area residents. Duckpin league bowlers do not need to be members of the club.

Financial aid may be available, as well as sponsorship opportunities.
