Rep. Conor Lamb (right) talks with Otis McAliley of Sewickley inside Safran’s Supermarket in Sewickley on March 26. Lamb stopped by various places in Pennsylvania’s 17th congressional district to discuss the American Rescue Plan.

Lew Safran, owner of Safran’s Supermarket in Sewickley, met with U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb, D-Mt. Lebanon, as the politician made stops in Pennsylvania’s 17th congressional district on March 26.

Lamb touted the American Rescue Plan during the visits, a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill aimed at financially boosting individuals, businesses and local governments.

Safran said the store does not have anything coming in terms of covid relief. He said the last year has been challenging, but that the store has weathered the storm without layoffs and shutdowns. His employees have also managed to stay healthy through the pandemic, he said.

“We’ve been very fortunate along those lines,” Safran said.

Looking ahead to the next quarter, Safran foresees challenges in keeping inventory stocked consistently.

“We’re keeping it clean for our customers and employees. And hopefully, we’ll go back to what we used to call normal soon,” Safran said.
