Sewickley Academy officials have purchased a property in Edgeworth but are offering no details yet about plans for the site.

A lot of nearly 42,600-square-feet at 627 Beaver Road was purchased in early April for $825,000, according to the Allegheny County real estate website.

The lot includes a two-story red brick home with a side porch, as well as a black and grey wooden barn and a nearly 40-foot flower bed.

Academy spokeswoman Jennifer Donovan confirmed via email the purchase was made “because of its proximity to the athletic fields.” She said there is no timeline for making any plans about its use.

Jim Millers, director of buildings and grounds, offered a similar response.

“With the scarcity of available land in Sewickley, when a property opened up so close to our athletic fields, we felt we needed to make an offer,” he said. “We are working with the municipality and look forward to figuring out, with their help, what the best options are for use of the property. Depending on zoning and other regulations, we’d really like to find a way for this space to benefit the whole community.”

The property is next to Morrow-Pontefract Park and the Quaker Village Shopping Mall, specifically the Heritage Valley Heart and Vascular Center, along Village Drive.

The property was previously owned by Barbara and Frank Wasco Jr., according to the county real estate website.
