Sewickley area student achievements for the week of March 18, 2025
Sewickley Academy’s Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter recently competed at the state conference in Hershey, Pa., from Feb. 19-21. Max Kopf, class of ‘27 (Professional Selling), Emma Ehan, class of ‘26 (Business Growth Plan), and Samaira Bhat, class of ‘26 (Business Growth Plan) qualified for the international career development conference in April in Orlando, Fla. Chiara Zeitler and Maria Sirianni, class of ‘25 (Sports and Entertainment Team Decision Making), and Ben Glass, class of ‘27 (Business Finance Series), received the highest role-play scores in the chapter. Kopf also received the highest test score in the chapter. DECA is overseen by Senior School math teacher Jonas Ankrom.
Michael Karafa, a student at Quaker Valley High School, has been selected to represent Sewickley as a National Youth Delegate to the 2025 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University from June 22-27. Karafa joins a select group of students from across the country to participate in an intensive, week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Karafa was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies. George Mason University and the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute are excited to welcome the nation’s young scholars to Washington, D.C. The Summit will encourage and inspire young leaders who desire a unique experience focused on successful careers in this dynamic industry.
