Sewickley Light Up Night kicks off holiday season in the village

The holiday season kicks off in Sewickley with Light Up Night on Dec. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the village.

The zero-waste event will have live entertainment by Mount Calvary Gospel Choir, Allegheny Brass Band and The Nation’s #1 Earth Wind & Fire Tribute Band.

KDKA’s Bob Pompeani will emcee the main stage while Tom Forrest will emcee the youth stage. Children’s stage performances include Infinity Cheer, Carol Leone Dance, Bella School od Fance, PA Academy of Dance and soloist Joe Birch.

Free carriage rides, ice sculptures, an ice carving competition, carolers and food trucks will also be part of the festivities.

Fireworks go off at 8 p.m.

Sewickley Public Library

Stop by the library for festive fun between 5:30-8 p.m. for children’s crafts, live music from 5:45-6:15, minute-to-win-it games from 6:30-7:30 and karaoke for all ages from 6:30-7:45.

Please note, that the library will close at 4:30 p.m. that evening to prepare for the event and reopen again at 5:30 p.m.

St. Matthew’s AME Zion Church

Soup for the Soul at the corner of Walnut and Thorn streets. Hot chocolate, coffee and tea will also be available.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will host a sandwich dinner in their fellowship hall from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1. A variety of hot sandwiches will be served, along with your choice of side (Filipino noodles, mac and cheese, and more), cookies, and a beverage.

Cost is $11 for adults, $5 for children.

The church will also provide free hot chocolate and several Christmas crafts for children.
