Fall Music Festival

Fern Hollow Nature Center’s annual fundraiser for environmental education, The Fall Music Festival, will take place 4-8 p.m. Sept. 18. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the fundraiser and the center is looking forward to celebrating two decades of rocking nature, education and conservation.

Fun for the whole family, the Fall Music Festival will feature The Mystic Knights, a fixture in the Pittsburgh music scene for quite a few years. Plus, Elias Khouri, a Pittsburgh-born and raised guitarist who is making strides at becoming a popular figure in the Pittsburgh music scene and beyond. The festival also offers children’s activities including mini-golf, obstacle course, scavenger hunt and much more. Festival food and drinks will be available from Curbside Cocina, Altered Genius Brewing and Sewickley Confectionery. Picnic and coolers are permitted.

Tickets for the festival are $35 for adults and $20 for children 5-17 years; children under 5 years are admitted free. Fern Hollow Nature Center members’ will receive a $10 discount on all tickets. Sponsorships include tickets to the festival, VIP parking and VIP seating. Sponsorships start at $100 and monies are used to purchase new equipment and supplies, fund free programming at the center and help the center keep their cost for programming affordable for local families. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased in advance online at www.fhnc.org or by calling 412-741-6136. Limited tickets will also be available at the door.

Sewickley Senior Men’s Club of the YMCA

Weekly meetings

The Sewickley Senior Men’s Club of the YMCA has resumed its weekly meeting schedule. The SMC meets in the YMCA’s Hunter Gym, where a group of more than 60 members gather each week to catch up with each other and listen to interesting speakers from around the region.

The doors open at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and donuts, followed by the formal meeting, which runs from 10-11 a.m.

Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement Workshops

CARE training including an educational component and active practice for general use by adults who interact with children of all ages in a variety of settings.

CARE is a trauma-informed, field-initiated training for nonclinical adults. The training is not therapy but is based on principles taught in Parent Child Interaction Therapy. CARE utilizes the 3 P’s – Praise, Paraphrase, Point out to connect with children and promote positive child-adult relationships. CARE training also contains a set of techniques for giving effective commands to children and a set of selective ignoring techniques to redirect problematic behaviors. Cost is $100 per participant.

Sessions are:

Oct. 7, 6-9 p.m.

Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-noon

Nov. 11, 6-9 p.m.

Nov. 12, 9 a.m.-noon

The Village Preschool in-person registration

Registration is being accepted for The Village Preschool.

The program for 3-year-olds is 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class is limited to 12 children. Children must be 3 by Sept. 1. Registration is $50, and tuition is nine monthly payments of $225.

The program for 4-year-olds is 9 a.m.-12:10 a.m. Mondays and Fridays and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays.

Class is limited to 18 children. Children must be 4 by Sept. 1. Registration is $50, and tuition is nine monthly payments of $400.

Classes are intentionally small to give the school’s qualified, caring, experienced teachers an opportunity to know your child well and leverage Laughlin Children’s Center’s 60+ years of multidisciplinary experience to help your child grow.
