Due to a commitment to captain an international golf team in October, Tapas Talks speakers’ series has rescheduled its “On the Tee with Carol Semple Thompson” talk for Feb. 15 at the Allegheny Country Club.
Guests at the event will get an insiders look at Semple Thompson’s nearly six decades of amateur golf pro excellence that began with her first major win of the Women’s Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania in 1965, when she defeated her mother at the age of 16 in Sewickley Heights. Semple Thompson went on to be named the WGAPA Player of the Decade for the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s and was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2008.
Tickets for Semple Thompson’s presentation are part of the Tapas Talks 2024 subscription series that includes talks on “Energy Innovations: Creating much more than Electricity” featuring Don Evans, CEO and President of Pittsburgh Gateways Corporation on April 25; and “AI: The Future is Now. How artificial intelligence has and will change our lives” with speakers Byron Galbraith and Dave Pawloski on Oct. 24.
Tapas Talks is a speaker series highlighting outstanding talent and achievements of local individuals which was created to inform, inspire, connect and give back to the Sewickley community. Held at the Allegheny Country Club, the series lets guests gather to enjoy tapas before each lecture and the conversation continues afterwards with dessert, coffee and tea. The organization makes end of the season donations to the Sewickley YMCA, Sewickley Community Center, the Quaker Valley Education Foundation and Union Aid Society.
