The Shaler Township Police Department is trying to determine what led up to an alleged physical confrontation between a spectator and a Hampton Township High School football player after last Friday’s Hampton-Shaler football game at Shaler’s Titan Stadium.

Shaler Police issued a statement saying that they are investigating the disturbance, which reportedly happened as the teams were leaving the field.

In the statement, Shaler police said they are “sorting through the information and interviewing potential witnesses. No specific information will be released until all the available evidence is reviewed.”

Police chief Sean Frank said they do not know the age of the person accused of hitting the player, but did confirm it was someone at the game.

“We are working closely with the Shaler Area School District, Hampton Township School District, and the Hampton Township Police Department,” Frank said. “There has been a great deal of internet activity over what occurred.”

Shaler Area School District spokesperson Bethany Baker said she was limited in what she could say while the incident is under investigation.

“The safety and security of our players, spectators, and guests during athletic events is a top priority,” Baker said.

According to WPXI, Hampton Township School District released a statement saying it was thankful that no one was injured, and thanked both Shaler police and Shaler Area School District for their response.

Shaler police are asking anyone with information including cell phone video to contact them via email at police@shaler.org.
