Dormont Pool to reopen this summer

Get ready to splash around again in the Dormont Pool.
One of the more depressing aspects of the pandemic has been the limits put on recreational activities. The Dormont Pool was one of last summer’s casualties, sitting empty for all of 2020 because of the covid-19 pandemic.
But that will change in 2021. The Dormont Borough Council voted Monday to reopen the pool this June in hopes of making summer seem a little more normal this year. The Dormont Pool is one of the more popular public pools in Pennsylvania, attracting families throughout the summer months.
The plan has apparently been discussed since late 2020.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to open the pool again this year. Last year would have been the pool’s 100th season. We will be celebrating that anniversary this year,” said borough manager Ben Estell. “We look forward to being able to celebrate with our residents and everybody who has always enjoyed Dormont Pool.”
Estell said people are being encouraged to purchase reduced price passes to help with contact-free entry to the pool. More information about the passes can be found on the borough’s website.
The pool will open from June 12 through Aug. 22. Pool hours are from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Borough council said the plan could change depending on how the pandemic progresses over the next several weeks.
Council also agreed to several safety measures, including closing the large slide and not providing furniture. The pool will also be open twice a week for day camp.
