Book sale

The Friends of South Park Township Library are hosting the annual Spring Book Sale at the South Park Township Community Center. The sale will be held from 6-8 p.m. April 20; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. April 21; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. April 22. Saturday is the ever-popular “$5 a Bag Day,” where the Friends provide you a bag and you can fill it with as many books as possible for just $5.

A large variety of books along with old record albums, books on tape, audio music tapes, CDs, DVDs, VCR tapes, games, puzzles and stuffed animals will be available for purchase.

All of the proceeds raised will benefit the South Park Township Library. For more information, visit southparklibrary.org/booksale.htm.

Whitehall street signs

The Whitehall Borough Historical Society will be receiving the old Whitehall street signs as they’re replaced with brand new ones around the borough. The Historical Society will be giving residents the opportunity to obtain their very own piece of Whitehall history by taking home one of these iconic signs. A complete listing of the available signs will be provided and, in some cases, there may be multiple signs per street. Stay tuned for more information on how to get your hands on one of these unique and memorable pieces of Whitehall’s past.

B-W Educational Foundation benefit

On April 1-2, check out Definitely You, 300 Towne Square Way in Brentwood, where 20% of all sales will benefit the Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation. Browse Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, Pitt and Penn State merchandise. Get a free T-shirt with purchase and enter a lottery to win a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey.

Spaghetti dinner planned for April 2

Pleasant Hills Lions Club will host a Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Auction from 1-5:30 p.m. April 2 at the Pleasant Hills Borough Building Community Room. The menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, beverage and dessert for $12 for adults and $7 for children under 12. First responders eat for free. The Lions request a non-perishable food donation for the local food bank. For more information, call 412-655-9319.

Whitehall Library program

Whitehall Public Library will host a special concert that showcases the grace and beauty of the flute at 7 p.m. April 5. From baroque to beatbox, the flutists of the Emissary Quartet will explore the history and context of this woodwind instrument with a selection of pieces spanning different times and cultures. Refreshments will be provided and the event is free. To register, visit whitehallpubliclibrary.org.

South Hills Women’s Club

The South Hills Women’s Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. April 11 at Scott Park Lodge in Scott Township. After a brief meeting, this month’s presenter, Jack Puglisi, will give a short introduction to the extraordinary life of Queen Elizabeth First. Guests are welcome to attend.
