In brief: Hall of Fame nominations, historical society programs and more in the South Hills
West Jefferson Hills Hall of Fame
West Jefferson Hills School District is accepting nominations for the district’s Hall of Fame. The district re-launched its Halls of Fame program last year and last March, 29 Thomas Jefferson High School graduates and two Jaguar athletic teams were inducted at the Hall of Fame banquet.
Thomas Jefferson High School graduates who have distinguished themselves in the areas of academics, arts or athletics, as well as staff and community members, are eligible for induction if they meet the established Hall of Fame criteria. Nominees included former students, teachers, staff and community members who have made unique and lasting contributions to the district and the West Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills and Pleasant Hills communities.
Nominations for consideration for the 2024 Hall of Fame class are due by Oct. 31. The nomination form is available online at wjhsd.net/Alumni.aspx. Nomination forms also are available in the district administration office, 830 Old Clairton Road, Jefferson Hills, weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Nominees who were considered for induction last year will be included with the new nominations for the 2024 Hall of Fame class consideration.
The 2024 Hall of Fame induction class will be announced in December and the Hall of Fame banquet will be held in early March (time and location to be announced).
South Hills Women’s Club
The South Hills Women’s Club, in its 80th year, will meet at 8 p.m. Oct. 9 at Vanadium Woods, 50 Vanadium Road, Bridgeville. Following a brief meeting, guest speaker Deana Thielet will speak on ‘Decluttering for a Peaceful Life.’ Refreshments and dessert will be served. Whitehall Historical Society
The Whitehall Borough Historical Society’s annual membership meeting will be on Oct. 12 in the Whitehall Borough Community Room at 7 p.m. The featured speaker is Andy Masich, president and CEO of the Heinz History Center. The organization will honor its first History Student of the Year. In January, author Tom McMillan will speak.
The Society actively seeks photos, documents, publications and memorabilia relevant to the history of the borough and its residents and businesses. If you have such items and would like to donate or loan them for future displays and presentations, please contact the society. All objects are stored and secured properly.

Annual membership fees are $10 per individual, $20 for a family and $50 for a business/organization. Please make checks out to Whitehall Borough Historical Society.
Whitehall Borough Historical Society 2024 calendars, which feature classic photo’s of Whitehall’s past, are now available at the Whitehall Library, Princess Lanes and Holly’s Hallmark in Caste Village for $5. South Park Women’s Club
SPWC will be sponsoring its well-attended craft show at Broughton Fire Hall, 1030 Cochrans Mill Road in South Park Township from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 14. The show features more than 50 skilled crafters who offer a wide variety of homemade craft items. In addition, there will be a bake sale, auction, refreshments and raffles. Proceeds benefit Club’s ongoing community activities, such as their three sponsored scholarships. Admission and parking are free. Jewish Kids Club
Beginning Oct. 2 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Chabad of the South Hills is hosting an Unlock Your Heritage at CKids Jewish Discovery Club for children ages 5-13. Every week is a new experience, including Aleph Champ master Hebrew reading, installing Jewish identity and community, holiday experiences, visual arts, Bar and Bat Mitzva preparation and more.
