Christy Grey’s eighth grade class at Mother of Mercy Academy in Whitehall took a trip to Gettysburg on May 15 thanks to a $300 grant from the American Battlefield Trust’s Field Trip Fund.

“Our students not only gained a better understanding of the bloodiest battle and why it was known as the turning point of the Civil War, but they learned about medical techniques, bacteria and how the terrain affected the battle,” Gray said.

Gray has an enormous enthusiasm for teaching and was excited to utilize Gettysburg National Battlefield as an outdoor classroom and give her students a meaningful and memorable experience.
