Brashear High School sweethearts are engaged to be married following a proposal at Kennywood.
Jake Jones, 20, got on one knee and popped the question to his girlfriend, Camille Nichols, 20, after the couple rode Kennywood’s Skycoaster – a ride that hoists people up 180 feet in the air until being released while strapped into bungee cords.
Still hopped up on adrenaline, she said yes.
“It was definitely a lot to take in,” Nichols said, laughing. “It definitely caught me off guard.”
Despite the shock, Nichols said she loves the fact the proposal happened at Kennywood.
“It’s like a home away from home for me. It’s somewhere to go to forget about everything … It’s been in my life since I was little. I couldn’t imagine life without Kennywood,” she said.
Jones said the park is a favorite place for the couple, so choosing it for a proposal spot was easy. He originally planned to propose Tuesday, but a sudden change in weather meant the couple needed to go Monday while skies were clear.
“She had no idea what was going on,” Jones said, adding the help from Nichol’s sister and Kennywood’s ride operator helped the proposal go smoothly.
Her sister snapped pictures during and after the proposal, which were later tweeted out by Kennywood staff.
Love was in the air earlier today on the Skycoaster, as Jake Jones popped the question to his girlfriend, Camille Nichols, after the thrilling skydive over Kennywood!

The newly-engaged couple, who met nearly four years ago in biology class, said they have “no idea” when they plan to get hitched. They just know they want to be together.
“We’re aiming for like two years,” Nichols said. “We’re still pretty young. So we want to get our footing before we do it.”
