Kameron Locy, a Baldwin High School student, received the inaugural History Student Award at the annual Whitehall Historical Society meeting on Oct. 12 at the Whitehall Borough Building. Locy was recommended for the honor by BHS history teacher Richard Deemer. “Kameron excelled at her history classes and was always looking for more. It was her intense interest in history that won her the nomination,” Deemer said.

Locy is drawn to history because of the perspective it gives. “I love history because it allows you to look to the past for guidance, and it prevents us from repeating mistakes. Lessons learned are the most significant aspect of history, which is why this subject is essential to learn. History is able to show you a new world and lets you be immersed in the environment of our past and of other cultures,” she said.

Richard Stark Jr. was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Stark was initiated at Louisiana State University Shreveport.
