A West Mifflin man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his mother and discarding her body in garbage bags in her back yard.

Jonathan Nulty, 21, is charges with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Allegheny County Police said the case began as a missing person investigation Friday by West Mifflin police.

A 52-year-old woman was reported missing by her father on Thursday after having no contact with her for five days.

Detectives went to the woman’s home along the 700 block of Eastman Street and spoke with her son.

County police said an officer discovered the victim wrapped in plastic garbage bags in the back yard.

Detectives determined that the death was the result of a homicide, and Nulty is the person responsible.

Investigators are working with the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office for an official medical determination of the cause and manner of death.

Police said Nulty will be confined in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh while awaiting arraignment.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous. The department can also be reached via its social media sites.
