State police said one of their troopers shot a man Saturday morning in Pittsburgh after he fled from them in a stolen car.
According to the state police, troopers on patrol spotted the stolen Infiniti shortly before 9:40 a.m. heading east on Interstate 376. Police said the driver failed to stop when troopers activated their emergency lights and sirens, and a pursuit ensued onto Crane Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood.
Police said the driver abandoned the car there and fled on foot; at some point in the chase, a trooper fired their service weapon, striking the man.
Police have not released the name of the driver, who was treated first at the scene and then at a hospital before being released into police custody.
No officers were injured in the incident, according to police.
Police said the incident has been contained and there is no threat to the public.
City police were called to assist at the scene.
Crane Avenue will be closed most of Saturday as investigators process the scene.
State police said they will present the findings of their investigation to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.
