Students at Aquinas Academy in Hampton compete at PJAS State Tournament

Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh student Savannah Deschamps receives the Crusader Award, given to the middle school student who best lived out on a daily basis the ideals of Aquinas Academy and who consistently displayed diligence in studies, charity to classmates, respect for teachers and love of God.

Fifteen eighth-graders at Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh in Hampton qualified for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Meeting competition.

The students qualified by earning a first-place award at the PJAS Region 7 meeting. Twenty-two Aquinas students submitted video entries for the regional meeting in February, and 15 received first-place recognition and qualified for the state meeting.

Along with a first-place award, Savannah Deschamps received the Director’s Award, which included a $100 prize.

The 15 students competed in person at Penn State University on May 16, with Savannah and 11 others receiving first place.

The State Meeting of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science is held each May at Penn State University’s main campus. All first award winners from regional meetings are eligible to compete at the state meeting, with approximately 3,000 students presenting their research, according to the PJAS.
