A Pittsburgh man suspected of fatally shooting a man over the weekend in Carrick turned himself in on Monday.
Corey Anthony Rall, 25, Pittsburgh, was arraigned on a charge of criminal homicide and taken to Allegheny County Jail after being denied bail.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Cole Kerns, 28, of East McKeesport.
Police said the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Sophie’s Saloon on Brownsville Road. Responding officers found Kerns shot at least once in the head and once in the upper body on a rear patio, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators recovered two spent 9mm shell casings from the patio.
Witnesses told police that Kerns and the suspect were involved in an altercation before the shooting, which was captured on surveillance video.
The video shows Kerns punching the suspect, who appears to be unfazed and then “raises his right hand and holds a dark object in close proximity to Kerns’ head,” according to court documents. Footage then shows at least one muzzle flash and Kerns falling to the floor of the patio.
Police said Rall ran to a neighboring convenience store and handed a small object to someone described as a witness by investigators. Rall then ran away while the witness got into a car parked behind the saloon and drove away, according to court documents.
Police said they tracked the car, which is registered to Rall, to his residence on Fairland Street, about a mile from the saloon. City officers said they spotted a pistol holster and pistol magazines on the front passenger seat of the car.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15.
