A Pittsburgh woman reported that a naked man attempted to sexually assault her in her apartment in the city’s Shadyside neighborhood on Tuesday night, Pittsburgh police said.

The victim told police she had come home to her residence along the 5400 block of Fifth Avenue around 6 p.m. and then thought she had heard someone enter her apartment at about 10 p.m.

A naked white man about 30 years old, described as heavy set and with short dark hair, suddenly came into her bedroom armed with a small knife. He told her she would not be hurt if she did not say anything.

The woman told police she was able distract him and then locked herself in the bathroom to call 9-1-1.

Detectives processed evidence at the scene and Special Victims Unit detectives are investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call SVU detectives at 412-323-7141.
