1 dead in South Bend Township crash

One person died in a head-on crash at the intersection of Route 156 and West Lebanon Road in South Bend, according to Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers.

Myers said in an email that the person had not been publicly identified Tuesday night because their family had not been notified. They died at the scene. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow.

Myers said in a subsequent email that a 2022 Dodge Ram was heading north on Route 156 and a 2023 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was headed in the opposite direction when they collided head on. The man in the Trail Blazer died; the driver of the Dodge truck was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital.

State police from the Kittanning station responded.

The call came in to Armstrong County dispatchers around 3:25 p.m.
