Gayle Moore said her 15-year-old daughter woke her just before midnight Monday night to say she heard three gunshots near their Apollo home.
Still half asleep, Moore told her daughter to go back to bed. About 15 minutes later, her daughter returned to Moore’s room and informed her the street was lined with police officers.
Armstrong County 911 confirmed the shooting was reported about 11:30 p.m. Police and medical personnel were dispatched to a home in the 500 block of North Seventh Street, across the street from Moore. She said Apollo, Washington Township and state police were among the responders.
There were three victims involved in the shooting, according to a statement Tuesday by state police. A 27-year-old man, a 47-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were sitting on the porch of their home when a person fired three shots at them from the side of the porch. Police said the 27-year-old was hit and transported to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville.
Police have not released their identities, and the condition of the injured man was not immediately available.
Moore has lived in her home with her husband and four children for the past four years. She said Monday night’s shooting is a rare occurrence in her quiet neighborhood.
“It’s a tight-knit, close community,” Moore said. “Everybody knows everybody. It’s somewhere you want to be, and then something like this happens and it feels like you’re in the middle of the city.”
She said she witnessed members of the family across the street arguing about the shooting and being separated by police. She said she has been requesting information about the incident and questioning if it’s still safe to have her four children there.
Moore said she is waiting for answers and intends to bring her questions to the borough’s council members. She said the street is shaken up. She and her neighbors’ first priority is keeping the children who live there safe.
“Our street is riddled with children,” Moore said.
State police believe the shooting was targeted and are continuing the investigation.
