Another round of road closures is scheduled to begin Monday in East Deer near the New Kensington Bridge.

The northbound lane of Freeport Road will be shut down at 9 a.m. so crews can continue painting and replacing fences.

The road is expected to be closed through late June.

The bridge, spanning the Allegheny River between East Deer and New Kensington, will get a latex overlay, structural steel and concrete substructure repairs, painting, expansion dam replacement, installation of new lights and minor approach road work.

Work is part of a $24.6 million preservation project that began in March 2023. It is expected to wrap up late this year.

The suggested detour follows the ramp to the bridge to continue northbound. Traffic on southbound will not be affected.

Motorists can expect a lane width reduction along with flaggers in the work zone.

No trucks are allowed on the bridge while construction is underway.
