Plum Council has approved filling three vacancies in the borough’s police department and in doing so has offered employment to the department’s second female officer.

Council on Monday approved conditional offers of employment to Jason Saunders, Haylee Walak and Luke Skledar.

They will replace officers who have retired or resigned, police Chief Lanny Conley said.

“These hirings will return the department to a total of 28 sworn officers,” he said.

Walak will be the department’s second female officer, joining Officer Crystal Iachini.

Walak and Skledar are tentatively expected to start in March, with Saunders following in April.

Walak, from Jeannette, and Skledar, from Monroeville, graduated from the Westmoreland Community College Police Academy in November, Conley said.

Skledar is currently working part-time for the Swissvale police department.

Saunders, of Plum, has been employed by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for the past eight years, Conley said.

The starting base salary for new hires is about $66,800.
