Belle Voci women’s choir steps up to help Race for the Cure

Music lovers who attend Belle Voci of Pittsburgh’s final season concert Saturday might feel like they’re on a whirlwind tour of Europe, Asia and Africa — all while never traveling farther than New Kensington.
Belle Voci, the inter-generational women’s choir led by O’Hara resident Craig Cannon, will perform “Musica Folk del Mondo” at 7:30 p.m. at Knead Community Café banquet hall, 1011 Barnes St.
“The concert will include indigenous music of many countries,” board member Pamela Williams said.
Belle Voci will be joined by the young girl’s choir Giovani Voci, a cappella group Solo Voci and special guests, the Justin Greenwald Trio, which specializes in Eastern European folk music.
Greenwald, a Duquesne University graduate, toured the country with the Tamburitzans Ensemble for four years. He plays piano, accordion, tamburitza, bass and trumpet.
Donations will be collected at the door to benefit Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh. Members of Belle Voci will sing the National Anthem the following morning, May 12, during opening ceremonies of the annual Race for the Cure, which draws upwards of 30,000 participants to the 5k at Oakland’s Schenley Park.
It is the fifth year the group has been asked to perform at the fundraiser for breast cancer awareness.
