The third annual Best of Blawnox Easter Egg Hunt on March 24 had nearly 150 Fox Chapel-area children rummaging through Blawnox Community Park in search of more than 3,000 eggs.
Nearly 150 Fox Chapel-area children descended on Blawnox Community Park for the third annual Best of Blawnox Easter Egg Hunt on March 24.
The children searched for more than 3,000 eggs.
The Easter Bunny made a visit as well as Baffling Bob, a magician. The outing included a variety of children’s crafts and activities.
Best of Blawnox President Diane Casile said the event would not have been possible without the nonprofit’s partners, — including Howard Hannah Fox Chapel office, Heritage Industries, Kurtz Custom Painting and Blawnox Sportsmen Club. Casa Del Sole in Aspinwall also donated various pizzas.
“We really appreciate all of our sponsors as our Best of Blawnox organization tries to keep all of the events in town either free or affordable for the children,” Casile said.
Mark Lombardi, Casa Del Sole co-owner and recently appointed Blawnox councilman, brought his family to the event.
“My son was involved in the hunt and had a blast,” Lombardi said. “He didn’t want to leave. I’m just really happy to see so many people turnout for an event in Blawnox. It’s promising.”
Councilwoman Katie Specht-Coban, who also is vice president of Best of Blawnox, said she has watched the egg hunt grow in the past few years and hopes more people will get involved in such activities.
“Family events are becoming popular with our younger generation,” she said. “We hope the families will see all our events and patronize them, as well as help work something that interests them. Each activity, the children will learn to see their neighbors, recognize them and just enjoy each other’s company. That’s one of the ways to make a safe community.”
