Two brothers and business partners are camping for charity at Sprankle’s Neighborhood Markets.
Doug and Ryan Sprankle own the markets in Leechburg and Kittanning. They’re known for their store promotional antics on social media.
Both set up tents inside their respective stores for their latest venture.
Ryan owns the Kittanning location and Doug operates the Leechburg store.
The brothers are trading competition for collaboration, hosting a dual-store “Camp Out For Community” for 24-hours at both store locations beginning at midnight on Friday .
Both men said they‘ll only leave their “campsites” (complete with fake fires) for necessary breaks during the live broadcast on Facebook and Instagram.
“We originally thought of it for one of our crazy store sales bets — with the loser having to camp outside,” Doug Sprankle said. “Then, me and Ryan thought we should both do it for positive reasons and to move it inside for safety. We thought, we have a great community (Leechburg and Kittanning), and we should promote it and ask others from the local community to join in, and we had an overwhelming response.”
The brothers will host more than 30 fireside-themed “chats” open to the public from local community leaders, business people and organizations.
“The hope is to get more community involvement and a general awareness of all the wonderful things going on in Armstrong County and Leechburg and Kittanning,” Doug Sprankle said.
Three Lay’s snack foods will be sold during the telethon-like fundraiser: Fritos, Lay’s chips and Cheetos.
For every two Lay’s bags sold, Sprankle’s will donate $1 directly to West Kittanning based non-profit Armstrong County Community Action Agency (ACCAA).
In-store munchie promotional items include buy-one-get-one-free deals on Cheetos and bags of Lay’s chips and Fritos.
ACCAA donation boxes will be at each store campsite.
“We have no idea what to expect,” said Ryan Sprankle. “But we hope to generate a lot of donations and help people in Armstrong County out.”
Armstrong County Community Action formed in 1965 and serves the needs of low-income families throughout Armstrong County.
“We’re so appreciative for Sprankle’s choosing our agency to be the recipient of the monies raised through this exciting fundraiser,” said Kim Pivetta, local projects representative at ACCAA.
More than 30 scheduled speakers and presenters are expected at both stores.
The River’s Edge Canoe and Kayak owner Neill Andritz is scheduled to speak at the Leechburg store.
“The Sprankle family welcomed us into the Leechburg business community with open arms when we started, so teaming up with them is a great opportunity,” Andritz said. “I’ll discuss plans for our next business season, which includes a newly purchased cabin for rental and the expansion of a food truck.”
Cheetos mascot Chester will have extended visits to both store locations for meet and greet/photo opportunities.
“He’s coming all the way from his last promo tour in Detroit,” Doug Sprankle said.
