Camp Guyasuta features new showstopper with illuminated waterfall
Christmas in Guyasuta will have an extra special glow this year as organizers introduce the newest feature, an illuminated waterfall.
The winter-themed extravaganza is scheduled Nov. 30 at the Scouting America-owned campgrounds and is a fan-favorite to kick off the holiday season.
“There is no better way to get into the Christmas spirit,” Camp Ranger Mike Daniher said.
Held rain or shine, the event will run from 4 to 9 p.m.
New this year is a three-quarter-mile walk along a luminary trail to a showstopping lit-up Washboard Falls.
“We’ll also have our ropes course and zipline open,” Daniher said.
An annual event, Christmas in Guyasuta takes participants through a 175-acre wooded wonderland.
There will be trolley rides through holiday displays, pictures with Santa, rope courses, a climbing wall and an illuminated 700-foot zipline for children 11 and older.
Carol Davis of Lower Burrell can’t wait to set up each year because it reminds her of her late father, Sonny Lauffer, a former camp ranger.
“I’ve been volunteering here since 1978,” Davis said. “My dad loved Christmas and would have loved this public event.”
The outing is family friendly and features activities for all ages, from grandparents to youngsters. They include crafts, games, a bonfire, letter-writing to the North Pole and concessions.
The Camp Trading Post will be filled with vendors selling handmade crafts.
Tickets cost $20 from Nov. 28-29 and are $25 at the door. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
