A car fire halted traffic Monday morning on the Tarentum Bridge, but did not cause any injuries, according to emergency responders.

Fire crews arrived shortly after 8 a.m. to extinguish a car fire in the northbound lanes, blocking rush-hour traffic in both directions. A single occupant escaped the vehicle unharmed, according to Tarentum police.

Brad James, chief at Eureka Fire and Rescue in Tarentum, said the scene was cleared within 30 minutes.

“We tried to be expedient,” James said. “We’re mindful of the traffic backlog, and it’s an important artery.”

Authorities said they’re unsure what caused the fire, but it did not result from a collision.
