No serious injuries were reported Thursday after a car went through a guardrail in the parking lot of a New Kensington restaurant and hit another car on Tarentum Bridge Road.

A bystander reported the crash at Wendy’s to 911 about 2:40 p.m., a Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher said.

New Kensington fire Chief Ed Saliba Jr. said it appeared a car entered the restaurant’s parking lot from Caldwell Avenue, turned right facing Tarentum Bridge Road and, instead of parking or turning left toward the drive-thru, went straight and through the guardrail at the edge of the parking lot parallel to the road.

The car went off a short wall, down a short strip of grass and hit a car heading toward Caldwell on Tarentum Bridge Road.

Saliba did not know how many people were in each car, but said none were seriously hurt.

“It could have been very serious,” he said.

The car on Tarentum Bridge Road, hit on its passenger side doors, could have been driven away but was towed, Saliba said. The car from the parking lot had considerable damage to its front end and was towed.

Firefighters cleared spilled fluids from the road before the road was reopened.

Saliba did not know what caused the crash.

New Kensington police could not be reached for comment and did not respond to a request for information.
