Lower Burrell emergency crews rescued a man after his car went over a hillside off Glenmore Street at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The white sedan went about 100 feet down the hillside.
“I was working on my (Christmas ) lights and this car came down at a high rate of speed,” said neighbor Tony Antonacci. “I’m thinking, ‘this guys not stopping.’ All at once, he went over the hill.”
Glenmore is a dead end street off Leechburg Road with steep hillsides behind the homes on both sides of the road.
Scott Gloer, deputy chief of Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company No. 3, said it was unclear how the crash happened but that it didn’t appear the man had a medical emergency.
“As he went over the hillside, he hit a tree and that stopped him from another 50 to 100 foot drop,” Gloer said.
The man was conscious, Gloer said, and had minor injuries.
Crews used a Stokes basket to rescue the man up the hill. Clyde’s Towing was going to tow the car.
The man, estimated to be in his late 70s, was alert once extracted from the car. First responders said he is expected to be OK.
Responding agencies included Lower Burrell and New Kensington fire departments, Lower Burrell police and Lower Kiski ambulance.
