A slate of mostly incumbent council members filled out their ranks by appointing a familiar face as they began their new terms on Cheswick Council after victory in November’s general election.
Adis Halimic, who previously was appointed to council and came in fifth place in the November election, will take up a vacancy on the board.
He’ll join incumbent victors Nicholas Pollino, George White, Frank Meledandri and Frank Stanish, as well as newcomer Rachel Simko.
The vacancy was left because Pollino claimed victory in races for both a four-year and a two-year seat in November but decided to take the four-year term. That left council to appoint Halimic to the two-year seat.
The newly elected council members opted to retain Brad Yaksich, who was not up for election, as president.
Halimic was voted vice president, while Stanish will serve as president pro tempore.
All of the council members, except White, are Republicans.
Simko, Halimic and Stanish each has an engineering background, which Yaksich cited as an asset.
“We’ve got an excellent group, a very smart group,” he said.
Many of the council members cited increasing the number of new families in Cheswick and infrastructure improvements as their primary goals ahead of the election.
