Joe Fischetti (left), owner of GAMA Sports Training, talks on Tuesday, Oct. 29, with Angelo Pugliano, a partner with Pugliano Realty, as they stand within the footprint of a new building Pugliano is constructing for Fischetti’s business along Sheena Drive in Plum.

Construction on a new home for a sports training facility in Plum is underway after a delay.

Crews with Pugliano Construction began work in October getting a site at the end of Sheena Drive ready for a 27,000-square-foot building for GAMA Sports Training.

In May, owner Joe Fischetti thought he would be in it by September, but waiting for permits to be approved extended that timeline, he said.

“Waiting on different permits to be approved held us back a few months. It was nobody’s fault,” he said. “Now, it’s time to go.”

Fischetti anticipates opening in January or February, depending on weather and the pace of construction. Concrete work is expected to be done by Thanksgiving, with the building being up by Christmas.

On Tuesday, crews with Pugliano Construction were working on the perimeter frost wall of the building and leveling the site for the building’s floor, said Angelo Pugliano, a partner in Pugliano Realty, which owns the building.

“It’s getting there,” Fischetti said.

Fischetti started GAMA Sports Training in 2018. It specializes in strength and conditioning, personal training and coaching for runners, and baseball and softball lessons.

GAMA Sports Training currently operates out of 5,000 square feet in another building on Sheena Drive, a dead-end road off Davidson Road, that it shares with Kapp’s Green Lawn. It will remain open there until the new building is finished, Fischetti said.
