Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries in a two-car crash in Lower Burrell late Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred near Hillcrest Volkswagen, by the intersection of Route 56 and Claremont Drive, shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Lower Burrell No. 3 Fire Chief Mark Marmo said a Tesla sedan and a Jeep collided, sending the sedan through some small trees and into a person’s yard.

Marmo said both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Two people in the Jeep and one from the Tesla were taken by ambulance to area hospitals with minor injuries, Marmo said.

The Tesla driver had to be extracted from the vehicle through a rear door.

Both vehicles were towed on flat-bed trucks.

Traffic eastbound on Route 56 was slowed around the crash site while the westbound lanes appeared to be unaffected.

Lower Burrell firefighters assisted with traffic control. Lower Burrell police are investigating. The road was fully reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m.
