Demolition of Springdale trestle bridge set to begin; detours in place

Overnight closures on Pittsburgh Street in Springdale begin Wednesday.
The road, between Duquesne Court and Washington Street, will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Monday or Tuesday as demolition crews remove the overhead trestle bridge.
Crews estimate the work will take about five days. The road will be open during daylight hours.
The bridge demolition is part of remediation efforts at the former Cheswick Generating Station.
Vehicles coming from Harmar on Pittsburgh Street should turn onto Low Grade Road, left onto Pillow Avenue, left onto Hite Road, take Route 28 northbound to the Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard exit, then turn right onto Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard, left onto Tawney Run Road, right onto Riddle Run and follow Riddle Run Road back to Pittsburgh Street.
Vehicles coming from East Deer on Pittsburgh Street should turn onto Riddle Run Road, left onto Tawney Run Road, right onto Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard, take Route 28 southbound to the Cheswick/Springdale exit, turn left onto Hite Road, right onto Pillow Avenue, right onto Low Grade Road back to Pittsburgh Street.
