District Judge Tom Swan, left, ran against attorney Shea Kraft in the May 18, 2021, primary.

District Judge Tom Swan defeated challenger Shea Kraft in Tuesday’s Republican and Democratic primaries in the magisterial district that includes East Deer, West Deer, Hampton and Richland.

Unofficial tallies showed that Swan collected 90% of the votes counted in the Republican primary, compared with Kraft’s 9.8%. In the Democratic primary, Swan collected 71.3% of the votes counted, while Kraft had 28.6%, according to the unofficial results.

Swan, 63, a Republican from Richland, is in the final year of his six-year first term. Kraft, 30, a Democrat from West Deer, is an attorney for a small, general practice handling criminal defense and family law.

Swan and Kraft cross-filed to appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots. By securing both nominations, Swan’s name will be the only one on the ballot in the November election.
