Driver hospitalized after crashing car into Vandergrift building

A man was hospitalized after crashing his car into a Vandergrift business Thursday night. Westmoreland County Public Safety said the one-car crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. at 140 Washington Ave.

Vandergrift Fire Chief Randy Dunmire said his crew was able to free the driver from the wrecked car .

The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. His name and condition were unavailable.

The four-door black sedan struck the side of a shop called Penny Lane. There is an apartment on its second floor.

Dunmire said the building sustained minor damage and the people living upstairs did not have to evacuate.

Vandergrift police are investigating the cause of the crash.
