A familiar face could be returning to Tarentum Council.
Two years after stepping down from local government, Carrie Fox has found herself in the political mix again. She secured the Democratic nomination for the 3rd Ward by write-in votes during the May primary election.
“I do miss having a voice,” Fox said. “I still receive phone calls, emails and text from residents that have no idea I ever left council.”
The seat is held by Brian Nolan, who did not submit reelection paperwork to Allegheny County but obtained enough write-in votes on the Republican ticket to appear on the fall ballot.
It’s not clear whether Nolan will accept the nomination. He did not respond to requests for comment.
Fox spent eight years on council before resigning in 2023. She hoped to focus on her family and hobbies but still found herself drawn to municipal goings-on.
She serves as president of the borough’s recreation board, which hosts multiple social events each year. Fox also sits on the planning commission and publishes the borough magazine, Crossroads of the Allegheny Valley.
Before council, Fox spent eight years on the Highlands School Board.
“I guess you can say I grew up in the world of politics,” she said. “I enjoy serving my constituents. I love to help people.”
Fox didn’t plan on running for council again so soon but said she had residents come to her and “tell me that they were writing me in.”
“That got me excited about returning and getting to work,” Fox said. “I love Tarentum and care where it’s going.”
