No tax increase planned in Fawn

Fawn residents haven’t incurred a property tax increase in 26 years, and they’re not likely to see one in 2025.

Supervisors approved a tentative budget of nearly $1.8 million. The proposed tax rate would remain 3.04 mills.

The owner of a home with the township’s median assessed value of $72,750 would again pay about $221.

“We cut down some expenses. We’re not buying any new vehicles,” Treasurer Pam Ponsart said. “It’s little things here and there.”

Supervisors will vote to adopt a final budget next month.

Ponsart said supervisors cut $50,000 from the road budget, leaving about $400,000.

“We don’t have any major road projects we’re doing next year,” she said.

The public safety budget is $869,000.

She said supervisors were able to fit a lot of upgrades into this year’s budget, including a new roof and parking lot at the municipal building and the purchase of a police vehicle for $60,000.

The board was careful to weigh needs versus wants for next year, she said.

Still on hold is landslide repair along Sun Mine Road.

A 150-foot section of the road crumbled last year near the split with Thompson Road. The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied a township grant application that projected repair costs to be $600,000.

“It’s probably over $1 million by now,” Ponsart said. “It’s on hold until we can get the money.”

The road is passable, Ponsart said, and hasn’t appeared to get any worse over the past year.
