Firetrucks, police officers and a special guest, Midas the K-9, all were a big hit with students at Curtisville Primary during the school’s annual Safety Day on Thursday.

Youngsters in kindergarten through second grade were excited to learn about the first responders who serve the Deer Lakes communities.

On hand were officers with the West Deer Police Department and West Deer EMS, along with the North Hills Special Response Team and West Deer Nos. 1, 2 and 3 volunteer fire departments.

Representatives from each entity demonstrated what their roles are as first responders and invited students to tour their vehicles. Everyone got the chance to pet Midas and learn how he helps the police.
